A bold showcase of François Morellet’s geometric mastery.
François Morellet was a visionary artist known for his work in painting, sculpture, and light installations. He used geometric shapes, grids, and mathematical patterns to create art that was both precise and experimental. His pieces combined structure and playfulness, challenging traditional art forms while exploring the relationship between space, color, and form.
The objective was to create a book and eBook that truly embody Morellet’s methodical yet experimental nature. This meant leaning into a design that represents his systematic, calculated approach while maintaining an engaging and visually striking aesthetic.
To reflect François Morellet’s artistic language, I took a structured approach using a strong grid, repetition, and geometric forms.
The front cover relies on typography, echoing his precise and minimal aesthetic, while the bold red color key in his work creates a striking presence. The back cover features one of his grid-based pieces, reinforcing his dedication to geometric balance.
A strict grid guides the layout, with each chapter starting with a square indent as a subtle nod to his style. Fully justified text enhances symmetry, ensuring clarity, balance, and bold minimalism in every design choice.
This identity extends beyond print. A digital version, logo, and reading app were developed to ensure a seamless and immersive experience across platforms. The eBook mirrors the physical design, maintaining Morellet’s structured aesthetic in a modern, interactive format.
